FAQs

Are you insured?

Yes! I carry business insurance with $1 million coverage, my live insurance certificate can be viewed here.

How do I book if I am unsure on timing?

No worries! In this case feel free to contact me directly and I can tell you availability and a time estimate.

What is your policy on start times or running late?

I do my best to ensure timely arrivals including overestimating job times, leaving booking window buffers, etc. to account for unexpected job issues, traffic, etc. I am more likely to get ahead of schedule and ask (but never require) that we start earlier versus arriving late. But like any handyman who visits multiple homes a day I can end up behind. I have 30 minute arrival windows. I extend this same courtesy to clients. For instance, if I give an arrival window of 5-5:30pm and arrive at 5pm but you are stuck in traffic and arrive home at 5:30, the start time is 5:30 and you aren't charged extra.

My situation requires certainty on  time, what are my options?

There are a few options here:

1: Be my first job of the day at 10:30/11am. This eliminates the (rare) risk of a cascade of jobs pushing you later into the day.

2: Book at night. Night bookings, especially after ~8pm are less common. If you're a night owl like me this can be a good option.

What if I have a special request and you are unable to do it?

For most work that is past my skillset or otherwise not doable I will know when reading your booking and let you know. If I am unable to complete an agreed upon job on-site, for example a mount I cannot do or if I cannot set up your WiFi router, you will not be charged a penny for that time.

Will you travel beyond the DMV?

I am willing to travel depending on project scope. Tasks beyond the DMV area may have a larger hourly minimum and/or a deposit.

Do you charge a deposit / cancel fee?

For most smaller jobs I won't ask for these. However in the case of larger jobs I may ask for a deposit as filling my work schedule after a large cancel is difficult. This deposit counts towards your final price. I will do my best to work with you on reschedules, unavoidable cancelations due to emergencies, etc.

What do I need to know about the full day package?

This is the safest and most consistent option for any job. Aside from the biggest multi-day jobs it assures that you will have everything done and ready to go in one day. That said, because I block all other requests I ask for 50% deposit. This full deposit is retained if you cancel less than 48hrs before the start time. If you have a special circumstance, need to reschedule due to an emergency, etc. feel free to contact me and I will see what I can do.

What is the best way to contact you?

Texting is generally fastest, but feel free to reach out by WhatsApp or email. I tend to have busy workdays and try to refrain from using my phone when working, so please be patient with response times. However if it has been a few hours feel free to reach out again.

What about hauling?

My vehicle is a 2003 Suburban, so I can carry most furniture items, especially if pre-assembly. I can haul away your old furniture and project related trash like boxes, but I cannot haul hazardous items, general household waste, etc. I am willing to rent a box truck or pickup on a case by case basis.

What can't you do?

I can handle most projects. However, some exceptions include complex mounts like TVs, ceiling mounts, and mounting to plaster or concrete. I also cannot do large projects or anything that requires licensure. Some examples include house additions or decks, electrical work (aside from light bulbs, etc.) and plumbing (aside from shower heads, etc.)

This website could be better for me as a user, can I give suggestions?

Of course! I made this site myself and I'm definitely better at building furniture than user interfaces.  I am always open to improvements; if you have suggestions feel free to let me know. If you happen to do website design I am open to offers, including as a trade (I build your furniture in exchange for you building my website).
